About The Position

The Manufacturing Layout Drafter is responsible for creating, maintaining, and controlling manufacturing and facility layouts using CAD software. This role serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and layout authority for production line, equipment, and facility layouts across the entire site, with ownership of revision management and configuration control for all layout drawings. This is an individual contributor role with site-wide influence, requiring high interaction with engineering leadership, operations, facilities, and EHS. The Manufacturing Layout Drafter plays a critical role in factory change management and risk reduction by ensuring layouts accurately reflect approved changes, support safe and efficient operations, and align with current and future manufacturing strategies.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience producing manufacturing or facility layouts.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD , Siemens NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Experience managing drawing revisions and configuration control for a large facility.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, production lines, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to work off-shift or flexible schedule at times as required by project timelines
  • Ability and desire to work on site in a manufacturing environment
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large or complex manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and material flow design.
  • Experience coordinating with Facilities, Construction, or EHS teams.
  • Exposure to document control systems or PLM tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the master CAD layouts for the entire manufacturing facility, including production lines, support areas, material flow, and utilities.
  • Serve as the single point of contact and SME for all manufacturing and facility layout drawings.
  • Ensure layouts reflect the as-built condition of the factory and approved future-state changes.
  • Create detailed CAD layouts for: Manufacturing lines and cells Equipment placement and envelopes Material flow and storage areas Workstations, aisles, and safety zones
  • Support new product introductions (NPI), line modifications, capacity expansions, and continuous improvement projects with timely layout updates.
  • Manage layout revisions using established document control practices, including versioning, approval workflows, and change history.
  • Establish and maintain drafting standards, layer conventions, block libraries, and title blocks for facility layouts.
  • Ensure layout changes are reviewed and approved by appropriate stakeholders (Manufacturing, Facilities, EHS, etc.).
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers, Facilities, EHS, and Operations to translate concepts into accurate layouts.
  • Participate in layout reviews, kaizen events, and design reviews as the layout authority.
  • Provide layout data to support space planning, capital justification, safety reviews, and construction activities.
  • Maintain a controlled repository of all layout drawings.
  • Ensure drawings comply with site standards, safety requirements, and regulatory considerations.
  • Identify and proactively correct layout discrepancies between drawings and the factory floor.
