About The Position

General Dynamics Electric Boat is a leading designer, builder, and maintainer of advanced submarines for the US Navy. The Process Improvement Engineering team (D201) focuses on enabling shipbuilders to be safe and successful in constructing and testing these advanced vessels. The team utilizes methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, Theory of Constraints, and facilitated problem-solving to drive significant improvements in lead times, quality, and overall performance. The role involves guiding organizations in developing and implementing improvement strategies to achieve tangible results. The successful candidate will work directly with shipbuilders and other departments, gaining insight into submarine production and facilitating teams to address major constraints. The approach will be logical, data-driven, and collaborative, with a focus on applying Lean Six Sigma principles to reduce lead times, improve quality, lower costs, and enhance safety in manufacturing and outfitting areas. A key challenge is the highly non-linear nature of submarine production, characterized by high diversity in work rather than repetitive assembly line processes. This role requires adapting continuous improvement methodologies to address complex system coordination in a high-mix, low-volume environment, moving beyond optimizing linear flow or local improvements. Selected applicants will receive training and certification in Lean Six Sigma, aligned with Electric Boat's unique Continuous Improvement approach.
