About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Process Engineering Technician I to join their Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations in West Lafayette, Indiana. This role provides immediate technical support to manufacturing, clarifies production process specification requirements, and ensures accurate and efficient production. The position involves assisting in measuring and improving manufacturing equipment and processes, documenting and maintaining manufacturing procedures, managing the procurement of assembly process tools, and training operators and support staff. The role also requires learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. The Process Engineering and Maintenance teams focus on optimizing manufacturing performance by improving equipment reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, and increasing operational efficiency. They support process improvement, root cause analysis, and preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.

Requirements

  • A two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing equipment relevant to the role.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, SQL).
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting process and machinery problems.
  • Experience writing and/or conducting Design of Experiments.
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Experience preparing materials cross-sections for microscopic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in measuring and improving yield, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Documenting, modifying, and maintaining manufacturing related procedures.
  • Managing the procurement of assembly process tools.
  • Training operators and support staff as needed.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
