About The Position

As our next Process Engineering Specialist, you will provide engineering support focused on the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of the Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) process. You will work cross‑functionally with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve process performance, support new product introductions, and ensure compliance with quality and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong hands‑on aptitude with willingness to spend significant time on the production floor
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications and apply engineering fundamentals
  • Strong data analysis skills, including design and interpretation of experiments
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with thermal spray processes (plasma spray, HVOF), fuel cell components, or powder metallurgy is an asset
  • Experience in automotive or advanced manufacturing environments preferred
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools (5S, root cause analysis, PDCA, basic Lean concepts); Six Sigma exposure is an asset
  • Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Developing, optimizing, and maintaining processes related to the Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) line
  • Providing day‑to‑day technical support to Production, Maintenance, and Quality for APS operations and related processes
  • Establishing, documenting, and maintaining process parameters and work instructions for APS, deburring, grit blasting, and inspection
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing trials and experiments to improve coating performance, yield, throughput, and cost
  • Analyzing process data and making data‑driven recommendations
  • Supporting APQP activities for fuel cell and automotive products
  • Participating in internal and external design and process reviews, with focus on manufacturability and process capability
  • Supporting the manufacture and approval of prototype and pre‑production parts
  • Leading root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions for process and product issues
  • Conducting capacity analyses and driving continuous improvement initiatives such as scrap reduction, cycle‑time reduction, and productivity improvement
  • Developing and implementing test methods and inspection criteria for coating thickness, adhesion, surface condition, and other critical characteristics
  • Ensuring appropriate gauging and measurement systems are identified and utilized
  • Training operators, technicians, and team members on APS processes and equipment
  • Supporting troubleshooting and maintenance activities in collaboration with Maintenance and Engineering
  • Providing process engineering support across multiple product lines, including powder metal automotive components
  • Ensuring all activities comply with Johnson Electric’s Quality Management System and EHS policies, including IATF 16949 and ISO 14001
  • Performing other related duties as assigned
