Process Engineer

Applied Materials•Bengaluru, CA,US
•$108,000 - $148,500

About The Position

As a Process Engineer at Applied Materials, you will develop, optimize, and qualify advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes and enable technology solutions for global customers. The role works across process technology, equipment engineering, data analytics, and customer engagement to develop, qualify, transfer, and support processes for leading-edge semiconductor applications, including deposition, etch, epitaxy (EPI), and PVD. You will work with cross-functional teams on new tool platforms and product development, conduct process research and characterization, and support transitions from research and development to high-volume manufacturing. The position also involves engaging directly with customers to understand their requirements, demonstrate and qualify technologies, resolve process concerns, and support production ramp activities. The role is based in Bangalore, India, and may require approximately 10–20% domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant industry, research, or semiconductor process engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes, including deposition, etch, epitaxy, diffusion, thin films, and related technologies.
  • Experience with DOE methodologies, statistical process control, process characterization, and data analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across cross-functional and global teams.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor process integration and manufacturing environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment, process development, manufacturing, or customer-facing technical roles.
  • Experience supporting customer qualifications, technology transfers, and new product introductions.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools such as JMP and Minitab.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and qualify semiconductor processes, including deposition, etch, EPI, PVD, and related technologies.
  • Develop, transfer, and qualify processes on new tool platforms, ensuring performance, repeatability, manufacturability, and production readiness.
  • Partner with equipment engineering teams to define hardware requirements and risk-based qualification plans.
  • Design, execute, and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE) to understand process interactions, identify critical variables, and optimize performance.
  • Use statistical analysis and data analytics tools to evaluate process data and inform decisions.
  • Conduct process research, development, characterization, and evaluation to improve Applied Materials equipment and systems.
  • Define process specifications and operating limits, and evaluate experimental results for robust, repeatable performance.
  • Serve as the process engineering interface for new product development, advising on process and equipment interactions.
  • Collaborate with product development, hardware, software, manufacturing, and field teams on product releases and transitions from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Work with customers to understand technology roadmaps, process requirements, business challenges, and future technology needs.
  • Plan and support customer demonstrations, process evaluations, and technology benchmarking, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Lead customer process escalations, perform root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions and long-term solutions.
  • Drive technology adoption through on-site evaluations, customer demonstrations, process qualifications, and production ramp activities.
  • Act as the process-related customer contact and coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve requests and support customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure availability of materials, components, and process resources.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process capability, yield, productivity, and equipment performance.
