About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovation. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions. This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groups. The Process Engineer will provide division-level engineering for optical fiber manufacturing, focusing on advancing preform manufacturing capabilities. Key project areas include cost reduction, process and raw material optimization, safety improvements, inter-site standards and governance, and ensuring manufacturing readiness for new processes.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical preferred)
  • 2+ years’ experiences in process engineering, glass or material engineering is preferred.
  • Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab and JMP.
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to analyze data using Excel and Access.
  • Strong mastery of fundamental engineering concepts with demonstrated ability to apply to manufacturing problems.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to execute assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Able to collaborate with varied levels and functions within the organization, including manufacturing, technology, R&D, operations, procurement, IT, and supply chain.
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, and customer focused, with a high commitment level.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of glass or ceramic manufacturing.
  • Prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing.
  • Statistical analysis experience.
  • Six Sigma DMAIC experience.

Responsibilities

  • Use fundamental engineering concepts to drive capability advancements in glassmaking processes.
  • Lead capacity, cost reduction, and process improvement projects that have division-wide implication.
  • Work between technology and plant manufacturing organizations to ensure smooth deployment of new technologies, products, and processes by identifying and/or leading implementation of required capabilities.
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing sites to coordinate and solve glassmaking-related issues and concerns.
  • Participate in site-to-site standards and governance effort. This includes identifying, auditing, and driving compliance to governed process parameters across sites.
