About The Position

Lam Research is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Metrology Process Engineer 4 to join our Corporate Metrology Lab. This role focuses on advanced x-ray technologies (XRF, XRR, XRD), AFM-based technologies (Roughness/Tomography, KPFM, and other technique) and supports the development of world-class metrology solutions. You will collaborate with leading technologists, drive innovation in analytical capabilities, and lead complex projects that directly impact our customers and product development. As a Process Engineer at Lam, you will operate on cutting-edge technology, harnessing atomic precision, material science, and surface engineering to push technical boundaries. Your role involves developing new and advanced process formulations, defining equipment hardware to meet processing requirements, evaluating test data, and coordinating design requirements to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Your expertise and knowledge play a crucial role our customers success, making an impact on the next generation of semiconductor breakthroughs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years experience; or a Master's degree with 6 years experience; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering; PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in metrology or materials characterization, especially in: X-ray technologies (XRF, XRR, XRD)
  • AFM
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Solid understanding of SPC and DOE methodologies.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a collaborative approach.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data analytics, Python, and AI tools is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support metrology applications, with a focus on x-ray-based technologies.
  • Develop and support metrology applications on AFM technologies
  • Design and execute independent experiments; analyze data and provide actionable insights.
  • Own workflows and deliver timely, high-quality support to process technologists.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to monitor and improve metrology performance.
  • Lead major phases of metrology lab development projects.
  • Track and evaluate key metrology assets using SPC tools.
  • Manage vendor relationships and escalate issues effectively.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians.
  • Collaborate across diverse teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and external partners to align on goals and deliverables.
