The current focus of this position is to function as a technical specialist in Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems, supporting both day-to-day operations and capital improvements. This position is responsible for applying engineering principles to solve complex technical and operational challenges.

Requirements

  • Degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 9 years' directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional engineering (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or eligibility for designation.
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater and water treatment principles, processes, and equipment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including providing technical expertise and direction.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including directing and guiding the work of consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to wastewater and water treatment processes.
  • Generate technical reports and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of existing wastewater process units using operational data and system monitoring tools.
  • Conduct process modeling, data analysis, troubleshooting, and pilot studies to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and regulatory agencies to define project objectives, scope, and requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise during the planning and design phases of water and wastewater related projects, including process selection, equipment specifications, and review of consultant deliverables.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and operations staff to support project delivery and smooth handover to operations.
  • Monitor progress, quality, and safety, and make adjustments to meet project goals.
  • Support and implement a structured change management process to ensure that modifications to processes, equipment, and control systems are properly assessed, documented, and implemented.
  • Ensure that all changes are supported by appropriate documentation updates.
  • Implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of wastewater and water treatment processes, such as energy efficiency and resource recovery.
  • Promote a workplace safety culture and ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
  • Provide professional and technical advice and expertise to internal stakeholders.
  • Stay informed of developments in water and wastewater technologies and practices, recommending innovative solutions.
