About The Position

Sigma-Omega Corporation, a business unit of SPX Technologies, is seeking a Process Engineer with a strong lean manufacturing background. This role involves developing, implementing, and optimizing production processes, with significant autonomy to define processes, create material flow systems, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. The Process Engineer will lead operational projects, including developing metrics, coaching teams on new tools and processes, conducting data analysis, and proposing new business solutions. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with entrepreneurial thinking, capable of creating momentum for change on the shop floor, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing them efficiently.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated working experience with Lean manufacturing methodologies
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, diplomacy, and tact
  • Great project management skills and ability to influence changes
  • Persuasive, motivational, and persistent
  • Must possess process engineering skills (process development/improvement, troubleshooting, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, root cause analysis, etc)
  • Strong team diversity: the ability to work with direct labour to understand their challenges and work on developing optimal solutions using a structured approach.
  • Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies.
  • Must be able to break down complex issues into workable pieces
  • Capable of identifying critical process parameters and applying sensible control to eliminate or reduce risks
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Strong use of common work tools (word, excel, access, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Review current state process, identify bottlenecks and implement changes to create flow.
  • Study and identify resource needs, ergonomic solutions, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Work closely with engineering and other cross-functional teams to provide relevant input to deploy new products for manufacturability.
  • Analyze and optimize production processes to ensure safety, quality, maximize yield, and improve capacity in cost-effective means.
  • Work with production staff to identify opportunities for design changes for existing products that would enable better manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Lead quality function deployment activities to ensure Poka yokes are institutionalized in high-risk processes in order to eliminate the risk of poor quality (PFMEA, Control Plans, etc.).
  • Utilize Lean methodologies to improve process layouts, material flow, and 8 waste reductions.
  • Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved. Do it right the first-time mentality.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing instructions, method sheets or standard work, and routings for associated processes.
  • Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop processes, tooling, assembly fixtures and procedures.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing principles. Reduce waste, create material flow, 5S initiatives, lead continuous improvement projects, etc.
  • Lead implementation of Engineering Changes to ensure a smooth transition between revisions.
  • Disposition of non-conforming material and elevate preventive action initiatives internally and with suppliers.
