Process Engineer, Cell

Stealth-mode Battery Startup

About The Position

The Process Engineer will scale prototype wet-cell processes into safe, repeatable, and efficient industrial manufacturing solutions. The role owns electrolyte filling (e-fill), wetting, degassing, sealing, and formation processes from development through production ramp. The engineer will define process requirements, run experiments, select and manage equipment vendors, commission production equipment, and support manufacturing on the floor. The work directly affects cell performance, safety, yield, throughput, and cost. The position includes developing and scaling processes, supporting builds and production ramp, investigating root causes, identifying and mitigating manufacturing risks, and creating process documentation and training. It also involves translating wet-cell process requirements into equipment specifications, collaborating with the Equipment Team and external vendors, managing vendor performance, and coordinating equipment testing, installation, commissioning, and qualification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, new product introduction, or a similar hardware-focused role.
  • Experience developing electrolyte fill, degas, or cell assembly processes through production scale-up and/or technology transfer.
  • Experience developing manufacturing equipment requirements and managing equipment vendors or integrators.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute design of experiments (DOEs) to characterize process-performance relationships and establish critical process parameters and process windows.
  • Provide direct engineering support during builds, process trials, and production ramp.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions for prototype production processes.
  • Identify manufacturing risks through PFMEA and implement mitigation plans.
  • Support PFMEAs, process capability studies, gauge R&R studies, and change control.
  • Create and release SOPs, work instructions, process specifications, control plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Train technicians and operators on processes, equipment, and safety requirements.
  • Translate wet-cell process requirements into equipment specifications, requests for quotation (RFQs), and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with the Equipment Team to identify and evaluate equipment vendors, integrators, and technical partners.
  • Lead technical proposal reviews, design reviews, equipment demonstrations, and vendor selection.
  • Serve as the technical owner for vendors from concept through production acceptance.
  • Manage vendor performance against technical requirements, milestones, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, and qualification.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, wellness, and professional development programs.
  • Opportunities to work on high-impact projects and advance in a growing industry.
