About The Position

The Process Engineer leads process safety and operational excellence across plant unit operations, troubleshooting processes/products while tracking performance metrics (e.g., raw material/energy consumption, OEE, financial KPIs) and supporting capital project execution. The role also provides technical support for environmental and utility functions—driving continuous improvement in waste treatment and utilities operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory (e.g., TCEQ) and corporate environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, reflecting strong application of the fundamental principles of Chemical/Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and then develop and execute solutions to problems
  • Experience reading P&ID’s and developing P&ID’s
  • Requires working knowledge of: Wastewater treatment operations (including testing requirements), environmental regulations, and reporting requirements; Plant utilities (cooling water, city water, boilers, water softeners, compressed air, sewers, and chilled water)
  • Government regulations for discharge to air and water.
  • Required to work in a team environment with customers and cross functional groups
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft tools: Documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple process projects and to manage process safety information records

Responsibilities

  • Drive process safety performance as well as participate in all HSE functions and activities in the plant.
  • Track, control, maintain and report on key metrics that drive plant performance.
  • Plan, conduct, manage, and report technical improvement projects in support of Manufacturing Excellence, including plant digitization.
  • Troubleshooting of both process and quality problems in the manufacturing process.
  • Assist in Off-Grade investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive Management of Change on all project assignments and support MOC on other’s projects.
  • Participate in PHA’s and provide process/technical support to the development of PHA’s.
  • Provide technical support for development, execution, and commissioning of capital projects.
  • Work with equipment vendors to evaluate potential equipment modifications.
  • Assist with developing standard operating procedures and best practices, including training.
  • Support housekeeping initiatives.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analyses.
  • Provide support for process control design, operation, and improvement in area(s) of responsibility.
  • Obtain, compile, analyze and report air, water and solid waste data to all proper corporate and governmental entities to maintain compliance with current regulations and requirements.
  • Develop, review, and implement strategies to maintain environmental compliance with all regulations and requirements.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement process and cost improvements to the overall benefit of the site.
  • Provide technical expertise on utility and lab testing functions helping the operators perform their work using proper procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain Visible emissions certification.
  • Document and manage site hazardous waste disposal.
  • Follow all site safety rules and procedures.
  • Fully participate in plant HSE activities.
  • Ensure that HSE standards are observed and maintained throughout implementation of process improvement work.
  • Report all HSE incidents and contribute to incident investigations.
  • Support all efforts to improve Process Safety and Process Safety Management Systems in the plant.
  • Maintain process safety information.
  • Assure compliance with all government regulations and corporate requirements, including reporting, regarding Waste Water Treatment Plant, solid waste and air.
  • Set housekeeping standards for the environmental lab and work with operators and their supervisor to assure standards are met.
