About The Position

Micron Technology, Inc. is hiring a new college graduate Process Engineer for its Manassas, Virginia, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing fab. The engineer will develop ownership of Diffusion, Implant, and/or Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) processes, with experienced engineers providing support through a structured training plan. The role progresses toward full ownership of assigned processes and improvement projects. The engineer will use manufacturing data and fab systems, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Fault Detection and Classification (FDC), to identify issues, optimize processes, and support high-quality die output. The position works collaboratively with Process Integration, Equipment Engineering, Yield, Defect/Metrology, Manufacturing, suppliers, and sister sites to support manufacturing stability and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 0–2 years of semiconductor process engineering or related experience, which may include internships, co-ops, or academic research.
  • Demonstrated understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and semiconductor device physics through coursework, research, or professional experience.
  • Experience designing experiments and analyzing engineering data through coursework, research, internships, or professional experience, including exposure to statistics and SPC.
  • Demonstrated technical communication, documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a cleanroom and manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Academic, research, internship, or professional experience with Diffusion, Ion Implantation, RTP, or related semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Experience applying DOE, SPC, 5-Why, 8D, or other structured statistical and root-cause-analysis methods to technical problems.
  • Experience analyzing manufacturing or engineering data to identify trends, process variation, yield issues, or improvement opportunities.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment, equipment qualification, process recipes, FDC, or other manufacturing control systems.
  • Experience collaborating across engineering disciplines on technical projects, equipment or process changes, or continuous-improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Own and sustain assigned Diffusion, Implant, and/or RTP processes by monitoring SPC, FDC, process parameters, recipes, specifications, and reaction plans; respond to abnormalities and appropriately escalate potential yield or quality risks.
  • Investigate process excursions and manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving and data-analysis methods, including root cause analysis, 5-Why, 8D, and Design of Experiments (DOE), and partner with relevant engineering and manufacturing teams on corrective actions.
  • Improve process capability, uniformity, yield, throughput, productivity, and cost by designing and executing experiments, analyzing process and equipment data, implementing best known methods, and supporting continuous-improvement projects.
  • Support new equipment installations and qualifications, tool-to-tool matching, preventive-maintenance recovery, hardware and material evaluations, supplier activities, and formal process or hardware change-control documentation.
  • Maintain accurate process and training documentation.
  • Use Micron-approved AI and AI-enabled workflows to improve productivity, efficiency, data analysis, and decision quality while following applicable company requirements.

Benefits

  • Choice of medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Programs to help protect income in the event of illness or injury.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses, and equity.
