About The Position

The Automation/Programming Process Engineer is responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining programs for automated equipment including Trumpf lasers, Amada ATC press brake, Amada Pega CNC, Fanuc, and Universal Robots UR series integrated robotic arms and other automated fabrication platforms for products from beginning-concept into the final marketplace. This person will work closely with other company team members such as Project Managers, Industrial Designers, Mechanical and Electrical & Process Engineers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Material Planning through product realization. They provide programs to operate the equipment based on Engineering specifications and initial instructions and diagrams for manufacturing use. They perform various tasks to support the research and development department including regular product troubleshooting, investigation, and manufacturing support.

Requirements

  • Developing, writing, and maintaining programs for automated equipment (Trumpf lasers, Amada ATC press brake, Amada Pega CNC, Fanuc, Universal Robots UR series integrated robotic arms, and other automated fabrication platforms).
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Industrial Designers, Mechanical and Electrical & Process Engineers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Material Planning.
  • Providing programs to operate equipment based on Engineering specifications and initial instructions and diagrams.
  • Supporting research and development, including product troubleshooting, investigation, and manufacturing support.
  • Interfacing with other engineers, technicians, and project team members.
  • Discussing design, method of manufacture, method of test, and other procedures.
  • Developing programs using CAD drawings.
  • Supporting Material Planning with vendor/supplier quotes, price negotiations, recommendations, and problem resolution.
  • Researching new techniques, products, materials, and processes, and new vendors/suppliers.
  • Optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Performing product qualifications and evaluations.
  • Supporting metal, plastic, and assembly work cells.
  • Reading and understanding Blueprints and Drawing Symbols.
  • Setting up and validating CNC and automated programs.
  • Performing required tests for product verification, validation, quality, and production.
  • Observing and recording test results.
  • Generating formal test and design evaluation reports.
  • Designing, documenting, assembling, and evaluating/testing prototypes and modified production.
  • Providing written and resource data into the company's ISO-driven QMS system.
  • Providing written proposals and justifications.
  • Providing written engineering change packages.
  • Providing or suggesting sources for new products/components.
  • Supporting the conversion of manual operations into automated processes.
  • Supporting the Manufacturing Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain programs for automated equipment.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Industrial Designers, Mechanical and Electrical & Process Engineers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Material Planning.
  • Provide programs to operate equipment based on Engineering specifications and initial instructions and diagrams.
  • Support the research and development department including product troubleshooting, investigation, and manufacturing support.
  • Interface with other engineers, technicians, and project team members to determine and achieve desired product requirements.
  • Discuss design, method of manufacture, method of test, and other procedures with team members to coordinate product development and realization.
  • Develop programs for equipment to produce parts using information provided via CAD drawings.
  • Support Material Planning with vendor/supplier quotes and price negotiations, recommendations, and problem resolution for machine parts and software licenses.
  • Research new techniques, products, materials, and processes, as well as new vendors/suppliers.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes by reducing set up and production time while sustaining or improving quality.
  • Perform product qualifications, evaluate product and project requirements, and assist in product development.
  • Support metal, plastic, and assembly work cells to reduce scrap and implement poke yoke solutions.
  • Set up and validate CNC and automated programs for product or component evaluation and/or validation.
  • Perform required tests for product verification, validation, quality, and production.
  • Observe and record test results.
  • Generate formal test and design evaluation reports for engineering approval.
  • Design, document, assemble, and evaluate/test prototype and modified production for mechanically produced products.
  • Provide written and resource data into the company's ISO-driven QMS system.
  • Provide written proposals and justifications for improving product performance, reliability, cost, etc.
  • Provide written engineering change packages to drive product development and production part changes for company approval.
  • Provide or suggest sources for new products/components and perform required tests to evaluate them.
  • Support converting manual operations into automated processes.
  • Support the Manufacturing Manager.
