The process engineer uses understanding of process fundamentals, process equipment, refinery practices, and specific technologies to ensure safe, environmentally friendly, reliable, and optimal refinery operation while coordinating and influencing the achievement of these objectives utilizing data driven critical thinking. This role involves troubleshooting and optimization assistance for operations on assigned unit(s), conducting daily performance monitoring including mass balance, energy consumption, yields and “process unit health” performance indicators. The engineer will generate, analyze, interpret, and disseminate performance indicators and unit operations data, evaluate catalyst usage and performance, and assist senior engineers with data collection and analysis for process changes to improve unit profitability and optimize efficiency. Additionally, the role includes conducting process operations analysis and economic evaluation using simulation software, participating in the evaluation of equipment design and process development, and participating in operator process training classes, Management of Change (MOC) development, process hazard analysis (PHAs) and piping and instrumentation diagram/drawing (P&ID) verification. The process engineer will also develop and maintain critical cross-functional relationships to optimize unit performance and employ industry best practices and standards to compare actual operation to the intended process design.
