About The Position

ESAB Corporation, a global leader in connected fabrication technology and gas control solutions, is seeking a Process Engineer for its Traverse City, Michigan location. This role is designed for early-to-mid-career Mechanical Engineers who will drive continuous improvement in manufacturing by reducing costs through material efficiency, quality enhancements, and increased production effectiveness. The Process Engineer will take increasing responsibility for process and equipment improvements, developing practical, innovative solutions that integrate smoothly into existing AlcoTec operations with minimal disruption and capital investment. This position offers the opportunity for significant ownership of process improvements, equipment projects, and cross-functional problem-solving.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 2–4 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in metal processing or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in CAD, SolidWorks, or related drafting software applied to equipment layouts and process design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical engineering mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel-based data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Support evaluation and improvement of mechanical and manufacturing processes related to equipment performance, material flow, and production efficiency.
  • Perform work in accordance with EH&S requirements and actively support a safe working environment.
  • Assist with process trials, R&D activities, and equipment evaluations, including data collection and documentation.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize production and quality data using Excel and basic analytical tools.
  • Support troubleshooting of process, equipment, and quality issues on the production floor.
  • Assist with equipment layouts, minor redesigns, and process documentation using CAD, SolidWorks, or related tools.
  • Participate in new product and raw material introductions, including trial support and data analysis.
  • Develop and maintain basic work instructions, drawings, and process documentation with guidance.
  • Support operator training related to new equipment or process changes.
  • Participate in lean, EH&S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Travel overnight on a limited basis for training or project support.
