About The Position

The Process Engineer provides technical leadership to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Natrium sodium bicarbonate manufacturing facility in Cortland, NY. This role is responsible for process optimization, capital project execution, and continuous improvement while also serving as a key leader in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) performance. The position partners closely with operations, maintenance, and corporate functions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, effective management of process risk, and alignment with the Huber Sustainability Management System (HSMS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in chemical or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in mineral processing, chemical process industries, or bulk solids handling is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of unit operations such as size reduction, classification, bulk handling, conveying, and drying preferred
  • Understanding of process safety, OSHA regulations, and risk-based management systems
  • Strong project management, communication, and influencing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD, control systems, PLCs, statistical tools, and Six Sigma is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily technical support to plant operations, driving improvements in quality, yield, capacity, reliability, safety, and cost.
  • Monitor and optimize processes to improve performance and reduce energy, water use, emissions, and waste.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, specs, procedures) to support operations and optimization.
  • Lead plant trials for process optimization and new product development, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Manage expense and capital projects, including planning, documentation, and execution.
  • Collaborate across teams during all project phases to meet business, safety, environmental, and quality goals.
  • Perform feasibility studies, process design, equipment sizing, and cost estimation.
  • Support installation, startup, validation, and training for new equipment and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and integrate safety into all processes and projects.
  • Support EHS programs, audits, training, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and maintain compliance documentation and reporting.
  • Partner with internal teams to support scale-up, technical services, and ongoing improvements.
  • Identify and escalate any EHS risks or incidents to management.
