About The Position

As a Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor manufacturing technologies. You will collect and analyze data, perform hardware characterization, and troubleshoot engineering issues. You'll also measure film properties, generate technical documentation, and engage with customers to resolve concerns. Process Engineers collaborate with vendors and suppliers, and become familiar with implementing new technologies and products. You will experiment, learn, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the semiconductor and display industries, partnering with our globally recognized R&D teams on state-of-the-art research and development projects. Position Summary As a Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing and optimizing advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes and enabling next-generation technology solutions for global customers. You will work at the intersection of process technology, equipment engineering, data analytics, and customer engagement to develop, qualify, transfer, and support innovative processes across leading-edge semiconductor applications. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in deposition, etch, epitaxy (EPI), PVD, and related semiconductor processes while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product innovation, customer success, and technology adoption.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant industry, research, or semiconductor process engineering experience.
  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment, process development, manufacturing, or customer-facing technical roles is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes including deposition, etch, epitaxy, diffusion, thin films, and related technologies.
  • Experience with DOE methodologies, statistical process control, process characterization, and data analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across cross-functional and global teams.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor process integration and manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting customer qualifications, technology transfers, and new product introductions is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and qualify semiconductor processes including Deposition, Etch, EPI, PVD, and related technologies to meet product and customer requirements.
  • Develop, transfer, and qualify processes on new tool platforms, ensuring process performance, repeatability, manufacturability, and readiness for production.
  • Partner with equipment engineering teams to define hardware requirements and establish risk-based qualification plans for new product and hardware development.
  • Design, execute, and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE) to understand process interactions, identify critical variables, and optimize process performance.
  • Utilize statistical analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, and other data analytics platforms to evaluate process data and drive data-driven decisions.
  • Conduct process engineering research, development, characterization, and evaluation to enhance the performance of Applied Materials' semiconductor equipment and systems.
  • Define process specifications, establish operating limits, and evaluate experimental results to ensure robust and repeatable process performance.
  • Serve as the primary process engineering interface for new product development, providing technical guidance on process and equipment interactions.
  • Collaborate with product development, hardware, software, manufacturing, and field teams to support product releases and technology transitions from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Work closely with customers to understand technology roadmaps, process requirements, business challenges, and future technology inflection points.
  • Support customer demonstrations, process evaluations, and technology benchmarking through planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Lead customer process escalations, conducting root-cause analysis and driving timely corrective actions and long-term solutions.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies through on-site evaluations, customer demonstrations, process qualifications, and production ramp activities.
  • Act as a single point of contact for process-related customer requests, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure effective resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure availability of required materials, components, and process resources.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in process capability, yield, productivity, and equipment performance.
