The Process Engineer I is responsible for supporting the development, execution, and documentation of processes and experimental workflows for an oligonucleotide synthesis platform and supporting process equipment. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Emerging Technologies and is part of Emerging Technologies, Platform Development group located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be a full-time, on-site role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or a related technical field with at least 1+ years of relevant industry or laboratory experience.
  • Hands‑on experience following technical procedures in a laboratory environment, including operating instrumentation, handling hazardous materials and adhering to defined protocols and safety practices.
  • Experience with data collection, basic analysis, and documentation using common tools (e.g., spreadsheets, notebooks, data management systems) with strong attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Ability to travel 5% time or less domestically.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently work in a laboratory environment for extended periods, including interaction with automated instrumentation and biological and chemical reagents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operating, troubleshooting and maintaining automated lab equipment and microfluidics devices in an R&D or Operations setting.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement or inspection techniques such as fluorescence or optical microscopy, profilometry, and the use of calipers and micrometers.
  • Experience and comfort working in an R&D environment where processes, hardware, or instrumentation are still evolving and procedures may change frequently.

Responsibilities

  • Execute defined experimental workflows involving operation of customized microfluidic instrumentation and automated liquid handling according to established procedures.
  • Perform metrology on custom components and inspection and characterization of novel materials and substrates.
  • Collect and organize experimental and metrology data, perform basic data analysis and visualization and prepare clear summaries and reports to support technical decision‑making.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, organize samples and labware, and support the creation and upkeep of SOPs, work instructions and experimental documentation.
