About The Position

Applied Materials' Research and Development department (Varian R&D) and Advanced Project Development Department team are searching for a Co-op to join their team in fall 2026. This role involves developing and optimizing processes for next-generation semiconductor products. The R&D department works with state-of-the-art tools that are essential to the semiconductor industry, advancing processes such as deposition, etch, pattern shaping, and material modification through novel engineering.

Requirements

• Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
• Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus
• Quick learner. Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things. Good communication skills. Well organized with attention to details.
• Available to work for 6 - 9 months

Responsibilities

• Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations, to include: tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, documentation.
• Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology
• Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions
