About The Position

The Process Engineer co-op student will assist the technical department in completing tasks that contribute to the efficient and cost-effective operation of the paper mill. This role involves hands-on work with paper machines, pulp mills, and laboratory testing, as well as collaboration with various departments.

Requirements

Currently enrolled student majoring in Chemical or Paper Engineering.
Completed freshman year but not surpassed senior status.
Attending University of Maine, Michigan Tech University, Western Michigan, or Michigan State.
Minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0.
Eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis.
Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Must display maturity and a high level of professionalism.
Must take ownership of work and work area.
Ability to work with other lab personnel, operators, and supervisors.
Positive work attitude.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and evaluate trials on the paper machines, pulp mill, secondary fiber, or other parts of the mill.
Conduct routine pulp and paper tests for trial evaluation or troubleshooting.
Monitor key process sensing equipment for accuracy and reliability, and implement repairs if problems are detected.
Conduct routine pulp quality tests weekly, including efficiencies, consistencies, and critical solids verifications.
Periodically monitor key consistency loops on stock chests and interface with the E/I Department to improve malfunctioning loops.
Order and maintain routine laboratory supplies and chemical solutions.
Assist in the start-up of paper machines from monthly shutdowns.
Conduct critical paper machine maintenance inspections.
Update lab MSDS for materials and chemicals used in the lab.
Perform other duties as needs and interest arise.
