About The Position

Applied Materials' Research and Development department (Varian R&D) and Advanced Project Development Department team are searching for a Co-op to join their team in fall 2026. This role involves developing and optimizing processes for the next-generation of semiconductor products used by leading companies worldwide. The R&D department works with state-of-the-art tools that are fundamental to the semiconductor industry, advancing processes such as deposition, etch, pattern shaping, and material modification through novel engineering.

Requirements

  • Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus.
  • Quick learner.
  • Hands-on and not afraid of building and disassembling things.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Well organized with attention to details.
  • Available to work for 6 - 9 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations, to include: tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, documentation.
  • Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology.
  • Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions.
