About The Position

The Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing and modifying processes to scale up from Research & Development (R&D) formulation, optimizing process flow, reducing variability within the process, improving operating capabilities and helping product safety. The main objective of the role is to identify, develop, verify, validate, and transfer ownership of processes/products from early developmental stages to product trials and on to manufacturing operations. Additionally, the Process Development Engineer evaluates and analyzes current processes and provides recommendations for potential process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in process development or engineering related to food processing, food industry, or nutraceuticals/pharmaceuticals.
  • Proven ability to provide timely, accurate, clear, and concise communication.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, task management, leadership, interpersonal, team building, problem solving, and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D design) and statistical software (e.g., Minitab).
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to perform statistical analysis to focus efforts on top losses or opportunities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering, data analytics or related field.
  • Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and/or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Project Management certification (PMP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations, failure investigation principles, and/or statistical principles and analysis.
  • Nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with R&D, Engineering, and other teams on new products and processes.
  • Drive the transfer of new products and processes from innovation stages to commercial production, including managing lab scale ups and plant trials.
  • Develop processes for Operations to ensure new products are manufactured predictively and efficiently.
  • Collect data, analyze, and optimize processes for small and large-scale production.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to ensure all products have established process parameters, reduce product variability, improve overall quality, and increase process efficiencies.
  • Provide expertise and recommendations for troubleshooting process issues.
  • Identify improvement projects to reduce waste, change overs, and processing times.
  • Support deviation management, CAPA, and change control activities.
