About The Position

Storion Energy is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to pioneer automation needs as the company expands its manufacturing capabilities in the US. This role involves a hands-on approach to learning new control methods, developing automation standards, and guiding other engineers in the production and adoption of long-duration energy storage systems in the flow battery space. Reporting to the manufacturing engineering team, the engineer will influence the direction and development of operations, collaborating with chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineers to bring a novel production process from lab scale to full operations and lead future manufacturing site expansions. The role requires a blend of traditional controls technology and hardware with higher-level programming languages. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineer, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on automation experience in a manufacturing or process development environment.
  • Experience working with Control System hardware and software (DCS or PLC Systems, Siemens preferred).
  • Programming skills in ladder logic and structured text programming languages.
  • Knowledge and Experience with HMI & Scada (Inductive Automation’s Ignition preferred).
  • Understanding of network communication protocols such as EthernetIP, Profinet, and Modbus.
  • Capability to work with scripted programming (Python preferred).
  • Experience in panel building and field wiring is beneficial, willingness to learn is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with instrumentation and devices used in chemical manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and robotic control for discrete assembly processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, integration, commissioning, and ongoing support of control systems for scale-up and new applications.
  • Take ownership of all automation aspects for equipment, including instrumentation, electrical, automation, HMI, and SCADA.
  • Collaborate with vendors on the design and implementation of controls system hardware and software.
  • Take a hands-on approach to integrating in-house developed and vendor-created systems.
  • Develop higher-level automation and process controls in PLC systems, including PID controls and sequence automation.
  • Develop and implement assembly automation/discrete manufacturing processes, including robot integration with dedicated work cells.
  • Set up and support network communication between PLCs and other systems.
  • Design, implement, and deploy HMI/SCADA systems for process data collection.
  • Support existing applications using Python and C++ programming languages.
  • Foster strong relationships with product engineering, operations, and vendors.
  • Generate and maintain documentation, ensure clear communication, and train others.
  • Focus on improving operating efficiency of manufacturing equipment through control system implementation and automation.
  • Grow technology expertise in Automation, MES, Industry 4.0, and IIoT.
