About The Position

Reliable Controls Corporation is seeking a Process Controls Engineer Lead in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Process Controls Engineer Lead provides engineering support for controls engineering and commissioning projects at industrial facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities and other related types of projects. This position focuses on design and review of instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industrial plants. The Process Controls Engineer Lead carries out tasks outlined in the project’s completion procedure as defined in the Scope of Work, executes completion activities at project sites, and verifies that documentation is completed. This role requires extensive travel—up to 80%—to remote domestic and international locations for on-site project assignments. When assigned to an on-site project, you must commit to a rotational work schedule for the duration of the project. Rotation schedules may include: 3 weeks on site / 1 week off; 4 weeks on site / 1– 2 weeks off; 4 weeks on site / 2 weeks off; and 8 weeks on site / 2 weeks off. Project duration varies based on scope and operational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a similar engineering field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable.
  • 60 months of experience working as a Process Controls Engineer or related occupation.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (or be eligible to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire)
  • Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Demonstrably excellent working knowledge of: complex engineering or application of technology; interpretation of P&ID’s; understanding of process control loops including valve, pump, and instrumentation characteristics (Flow, Pressure, Level, Density, Temperature, pH, and Analyzers); Proficient with reading and understanding PFDs, P&IDs, Loop Diagrams, I/O Schematics, ISA Instrument Datasheets, Control Narratives, and Cause and Effects; plant commissioning and start-up; Allen Bradley and/or Siemens and/or Modicon PLC’s; DeltaV and/or Honeywell and/or ABB DCS; and NEC, NFPA, PSM, MSHA, IEC 61131/61508, and ISA codes and standards
  • Demonstrably excellent ability to: communicate, including technical writing, daily reporting, presentations, etc.; express an independent opinion, be resilient to change, and recognize impact of decisions on others; troubleshoot; and follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable ability to: be the lead over a group of highly qualified professionals engaged in complex engineering or technology applications; understand mineral processing and oil and gas processes; understand material flow balances and energy balances; write PLC/DCS logic and HMI/DCS configuration; and identify defects and deficiencies with purpose of providing remediation (Punch list management)

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement standards and strategies to improve process efficiency
  • Lead teams responsible for various engineering or technical assignments
  • Design and review instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industry processing plants
  • Engineer and design network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause and Effect
  • Design process control systems and strategies
  • Design, implement, and optimize process network infrastructure and automation processes through modern process control systems
  • Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process controls
  • Provide hands-on support for commissioning/start-up activities
  • Perform such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
