About The Position

Air Liquide Large Industries provides industrial gas and energy solutions vital to customer production. The company owns and operates extensive pipeline networks and production facilities, monitored 24/7 from a control center in Houston, Texas. This role supports the project manager of DCS modernization, leading the design, implementation, and upgrades of DCS projects. The Process Control Project Engineer manages the technical scope of automation projects from scoping through handover, coordinating with vendors. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Valid employment authorization in the U.S. and no requirement for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in process control, automation engineering, and project management within an industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in programming and configuring PLCs/DCS/SCADA (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell).
  • Strong understanding of field instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical drawings.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing contractors.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with process safety management, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and relevant standards (e.g., ISA-88, ISA-95, IEC 61511).
  • Experience integrating OT (Operational Technology) with IT networks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify control system architectures, including PLCs, DCS, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
  • Specify virtualization environment needs for virtual machines (VMs) and relocation of existing VMs.
  • Select and specify field instrumentation (sensors, transmitters, control valves, DVCs, etc.) based on process requirements.
  • Conduct field walkthroughs with vendors for mounting specifications and with engineering partners for cabinet/panel design.
  • Develop and maintain technical project documentation, including P&IDs, loop sheets, FDS, and electrical schematics, ensuring updates in Meridian.
  • Oversee control system programming, configuration, and tuning.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for new control systems and equipment.
  • Walk construction packages with bidders, receive transmitters and DVCs at site, and ensure safe working practices.
  • Oversee, direct, and supervise construction activities, providing technical guidance and updating redlines to as-builts.
  • Obtain technical answers for construction crews and sign daily timesheets.
  • Attend daily meetings with the Project Manager to update the schedule, provide highlights, and plan for the next day.
  • Provide overall E&I technical expertise, including startup support.
  • Direct on-site installation, commissioning, loop checking, and startup activities.
  • Handover the system and provide technical support to maintenance and operations staff post-installation.
  • Analyze existing process control systems to identify bottlenecks and implement upgrades for improved safety, reliability, and efficiency.
