About The Position

U. S. Steel has an immediate opening for a Process Control Engineer within the Process Control Steelmaking organization. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing process control hardware and software solutions in a heavy industrial environment. Responsibilities: The applicant will optimize and improve industrial plant process control solutions to meet business requirements. The applicant will translate business requirements into industrial application solutions and interact with personnel throughout the organization both as an individual and in a team environment. Design, develop, and implement control logic and automation sequences using Siemens SIMATIC S7 / TIA Portal, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix platforms. Configure and tune Siemens SINAMICS / SIMOTION, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley drives for various mill equipment including roughing and finishing stands, coilers, shears, and handling systems. Participate in FAT, SAT, and site commissioning for PLC and drive systems. Develop and maintain documentation including I/O lists, logic diagrams, and functional design specifications. Interface PLC systems with HMIs, SCADA, and higher-level automation systems Support troubleshooting, fault analysis, and optimization during system startup and early production. Ensure system safety and reliability by implementing robust interlocks and emergency controls. Ensure adherence to US Steel Principles, Change Management and Ongoing Continuance Improvement Programming in area(s) of responsibility. Requirements: The applicant will support production hardware and software applications, SCADA systems, Graphical HMI applications and LAN communications. The applicant will be knowledgeable in industrial plant process control systems, including programming and technical support. Applicants with a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Control Systems Engineering. Capable of analyzing short- and long-term hardware, software, equipment, and instrumentation requirements and providing appropriate and cost-effective technical solutions. Capable of providing oral and written communication interfaces with departmental management, operations management, operating crews, control system support personnel, system support personnel and others. Capable of providing process control support for a 24x7 industrial environment. Experience: 3-7 years of experience in industrial automation or process control engineering. Preferred hands-on experience with Siemens / Rockwell PLCs and Drives. Strong understanding of industrial networks (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP). Experience in commissioning heavy industrial or steel processing equipment (preferred). Skills: Knowledge of AC/DC motor control, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation. Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., WinCC). Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Additional Information: Work Environment: Engineering office and site based during commissioning phase. Travel: Domestic and limited international travel for vendor FAT/SAT and training Duration: Multi-year project with long-term employment potential post-installation
