Probation & Parole Services Supervisor
About The Position
Community Corrections is currently looking for a Probation and Parole Services Supervisor. We are seeking a self-motivated team builder who wants to make a positive community impact working with Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs). The Probation and Parole Services (PPS) Supervisor plans, organizes, and supervises parole and probation within the Department of Community Corrections. The Supervisor is a technical expert on tasks related to the effective supervision of parole and probation clients. The role has broad supervisory responsibility for one or more teams of probation and parole officers (PPO) and other paraprofessionals involved with supervision of clients. The incumbent will exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative to assist PPOs managing JIIs on their caseloads. The position receives general direction from the Parole and Probation Manager.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent; AND 7 years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience; OR
- An Associate's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; AND 5 years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience; OR
- A Bachelor's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; AND 3 years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
- Must acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
- Must have a current certification as a Probation Officer from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST); or obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
- Must be a US citizen or become a US citizen within 12 months of hire.
- Must pass a post-offer physical capacities assessment, psychological assessment, and the DPSST pre-employment medical exam prior to appointment.

- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of behavior and adjustment problems of JIIs.
- Knowledge of probation counseling, case management, and the adult criminal justice system, including sentencing and probation procedures.
- Knowledge of correction theory and methods.
- Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Knowledge of fiscal and program management.
- Skill to communicate with individuals or groups to effectively convey information.
- Skill to verbally persuade and calmly defuse difficult and stressful circumstances.
- Skill to make recommendations regarding the disposition and activities of clients.
- Skill to effectively manage time and resources.
- Skill to prepare effective written reports and maintain records.
- Skill to operate office software.
- Ability to investigate cases and objectively evaluate information.
- Ability to develop treatment plans.
- Ability to work effectively with JII’s, fellow employees, court, and law enforcement personnel.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, clients, community partners, and/or vendors.
Responsibilities

- Exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative to assist PPOs managing JIIs on their caseloads.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates PPOs and case monitors.
- Maintains accurate and complete records.
