Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any area, which includes or is supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences.
  • Applicants who are approaching their anticipated graduation date may apply. If selected, the applicant must complete their degree no later than their start date.
  • Applicants are required to submit a photocopy of their transcript at the time of application. If selected, an official college or university transcript is required prior to start date.
  • Degrees conferred outside of the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service. (See https://naces.org/members/ )
  • Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.
  • US citizenship is not required.
  • Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
  • Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
  • Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.

Nice To Haves

  • For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Properly date and time stamp mail and court documents received
  • Docket cases in NJ KIDS accurately and timely, including effective party searches and linking cases.
  • Enter dispositions, dismissals, and other court events or documents into NJ KIDS accurately and timely, including effective use Comments box in CCRT Screen in NJ KIDS and Case Comments in FACTS to memorialize case activity.
  • Be proficient in checking status of cases and reliefs in both FACTS and NJ KIDS to ensure proper disposition and avoid overgoal issues (Probation Officer, Investigator’s, JC4’s, JC3’s and JC2’s only)
  • Scheduling and noticing cases for various court or non-court events in FACTS and NJ KIDS accurately and timely
  • Be proficient in preparing USSO’s and CS702’s in NJ KIDS. (Probation Officer, Investigator, JC4’s and JC3’s only)
  • Provide accurate information to litigants or the public about court procedures, the status of their case, and other non-legal guidance in a professional and courteous manner.
  • File court orders and other documents in court files as prescribed by Family Division Procedures
  • Be proficient in looking up cases in NJ KIDS for payment and arrears information (FM\FD\FV case types only)
  • Be proficient in looking up the status of service in NJ KIDS NRRQ screen and USPS website
  • Handle special projects or assignments as assigned by the Team Leader
  • Print out service of process documents (e.g., certified mail, personal service by Sheriff) and enter into FACTS or NJ KIDS, and file in court jackets accurately and timely
  • In conjunction with Team Leader, assist with training, cross training or mentoring JC3’s, JC2’s or JC1’s (, Investigator’s and JC4’s only)
  • Attend cross-training as directed by Team Leader
  • Assist Team Leader in monitoring and reviewing aging\over goal reports (Probation Officer, Investigators and JC4’s only)
  • Be proficient in looking up cases in the Certificate of Parentage (COP) Program for paternity information
  • Monitor caseload (where applicable) attentively and take appropriate action where necessary.
  • Prepare high quality investigative, or court reports (for FD case type only)
  • Perform after hours (beeper)duty as required
  • Conduct high-quality consent conference sessions (for FD case type only).
  • Be an expert in the statutes, court rules and case processing and legal policies, procedures, and standards for your particular case type.
  • Assist with instant urine drug screening
  • Have a working knowledge of DCPP practices
  • Support implementation of co-occurrence directive, as required
  • Support implementation of co-occurrence as required
  • Update ECATS daily to reflect time accurately
  • Accurately screen litigants to determine if a temporary restraining order is needed
  • Accurately & efficiently process TRO applications
  • Create TRO’s in E-TRO
  • Enter service and other pertinent information in E-TRO
  • Be proficient in looking up information in PROMIS/GAVEL for criminal history
  • Be proficient in looking up information in CCIS for municipal court information
  • Be proficient in generating orders in E-TRO
  • Be proficient with 9th floor desk check-in
  • Become proficient in using NJ-Spirit
  • In-Court probation officer to assist with court calendar functions, serve litigants & tend to the Judges needs
