About The Position

This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. This position performs responsible supervisory work in the direct supervision of Probation and Parole Officers in the delivery of probation, parole, pardon and work release services. Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following: 1. Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement 2. Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply) 3. Six years of full-time experience in any field 4. A bachelor's degree OR Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical oversight to subordinate staff through audits, case reviews, and conferences to ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance with laws and policies, and quality case management and investigations.
  • Supervise and coordinate Probation and Parole Officers involved in the violation process, including arrest planning, offender transportation, probable cause hearings, and revocation proceedings.
  • Monitor offender case management activities to ensure proper enforcement of supervision conditions, effective use of community resources, appropriate counseling practices, and sound decision-making regarding violations and treatment plans.
  • Conduct orientation and ongoing training for new and current staff to support professional development and effective job performance.
  • Assist with personnel management activities, including recruitment and selection, background investigations, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and serving as acting manager in the absence of the Probation and Parole District Manager.
  • Oversee operational functions such as case assignments, investigations, intake services, and coordination with criminal justice agencies, community organizations, and residential facilities.
  • Manage statistical reporting, administrative operations, and special projects or programs in accordance with established policies and direction from the Probation and Parole District Manager-Adult.
  • Serve as the district’s American Correctional Association (ACA) Coordinator and maintain ACA certification requirements.
  • Assist with jail operation audits for facilities housing Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC) inmates and conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates housed in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).
  • Coordinate officer activities related to Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC), monitor compliance with the district’s Sex Offender Program, and supervise Probation and Parole Officers and Specialists.

Benefits

  • This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $33.78 per hour.
