About The Position

The Probation Aide in the Adult Probation Department provides probationary support services to individuals on supervision. Work includes a significant amount of contact with probationers, parolees and the public assisting professional staff members in the investigation of an offender's background. The Probation Aide is integral in processing correspondence incoming to the department from county, state, and federal systems, as well as, court orders from the judiciary and Magisterial District Judges.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years' experience in criminal justice, human services, or closely related field, one year which shall have included investigative work detailed in legally valid, fact-finding and reporting assignments.
Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the above knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of the principles and policies of the adult probation and parole system, including statutes, rules, and legal precedent.
Knowledge of casework principles and practices
Knowledge of the principles of evidence-based practices in adult probation and parole.
Knowledge of various computer systems used by the Adult Probation and Parole Department including CPCMS and JNET.
A criminal background check may be required.

Responsibilities

Conduct a post-sentence face-to-face interview with offenders in order to obtain information relating to their physical, financial, medical, employment, residential, mental health, substance use, and general attributes.
Review and answer questions related to the rules and regulations of supervision.
Input all gathered data into the department's case management system.
Complete intercounty and interstate transfer applications when appropriate.
Process court orders by entering all relevant sentencing information into the department's case management system.
Monitor an abeyance caseload of offenders who are not immediately available for direct supervision due to their incarceration, medical or absconder status.
Maintain contact with the intercounty or interstate supervision agency and with the offender directly in order to determine compliance/non-compliance with supervision.
Maintain case notes and prepare warrants as necessary.
Assist offenders in accessing available community resources.
Attend seminars, meetings and conferences to expand knowledge and expertise in the field.
Answer inquiries from the public, and other Court and County offices regarding policies and procedures of the department.
Perform other related work as required.
