About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care within a correctional facility. The Registered Nurse will assess patients' physical, psychological, and social needs, develop and implement individual treatment programs, administer medications, and perform diagnostic tests as ordered. The role requires strong documentation skills, adherence to policies and procedures, and effective communication with patients, medical staff, and correctional officers. The nurse will also be involved in patient teaching, quality assurance, and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment. Professional expectations include continuous learning, leadership, and maintaining professional relationships.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state in which they are practicing.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Able to relate well to patients, security staff, visitors and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two (2) years clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients.
  • Obtain health history and perform assessments.
  • Provide written patient assessments upon admission, during confinement, and upon discharge.
  • Summarize assessment data and make documented triage decisions.
  • Plan and implement individual treatment programs utilizing available protocols.
  • Utilize referral processes for appropriate providers.
  • Plan care and patient teaching using available resources.
  • Consult with nurses, physicians, correctional officers, etc.
  • Implement clinical and technical aspects of care according to policies and procedures.
  • Intervene with proper technique, procedures, and safety precautions.
  • Administer medications, including IV therapy, in accordance with physician's orders and utilizing pharmacology knowledge.
  • Obtain diagnostic tests and body fluid specimens.
  • Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by physicians.
  • Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting.
  • Communicate information to other nursing staff, physicians, supervisory personnel, correctional officers, and department heads.
  • Respect patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Assess personal learning development needs and plan/implement a program to meet them.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and perform nursing policies and procedures.
  • Support the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the nursing department.
  • Accept staffing assignments and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform within the limits of the state practice act, Code of Ethics, and facility policies/procedures.
  • Promote quality assurance standards by participating in chart audits.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with patients, medical and correctional personnel.
  • Promote good working relationships among staff and between disciplines/departments.
  • Provide leadership to nursing staff.
  • Supervise and strive for excellence in patient care by challenging and correcting errors of peers.
  • Identify existing and potential problems and take effective action.
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of needed improvements in patient care, procedures, equipment, and supplies, and make recommendations.
  • Assist in the presentation of in-service education as requested.
  • Assume individual accountability for own conduct and professional appearance.
  • Participate in nursing activities that promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care.
  • Approach change in a positive manner, motivate staff to work as a team, and accept constructive criticism.

Benefits

  • Shift Diffs: $4 per hour from 2p-6p
  • $8 per hour from 6p-6a
