About The Position

Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at PAM Specialty Hospital of Las Vegas and is recruiting a PRN Pharmacist to work as needed during facility hours and on call. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with on-call coverage after hours. A clinical pharmacy background and hospital experience are highly preferred. Health System Pharmacy provides customized pharmacy program solutions intended to reduce costs and improve patient-care quality for hospitals, health systems, and other integrated healthcare providers. It may also consult with and advise healthcare teams on prescribed medications, supplies, and related processes. Pharmacy Operations coordinates Cardinal Health pharmacy operations serving acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices, and retail customers. The pharmacist interprets medication orders, maintains patient medication profiles, compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, monitors drug therapy, supports clinical consultation and dosing services, documents interventions, and contributes to quality improvement, medication-use review, and staff education activities. This role applies working knowledge to varied tasks and moderately scoped projects, identifies and resolves technical problems within defined parameters, and receives general guidance. Work is reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy.

Requirements

Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Good-standing pharmacist license in Nevada.
Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals.
Strong customer service skills.
Manual dexterity for occasional reaching, lifting, and holding of small objects.
Computer proficiency and ability to learn and operate multiple pharmacy information systems.
Flexibility to work various shifts.
Ability to work on call or participate in an on-call rotation.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, lift, and stand for the entire shift.
May require vendor credentialing.

Nice To Haves

Inpatient or hospital pharmacy experience is highly preferred.
IV compounding experience is preferred.
Clinical pharmacy background is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Interpret verbal and written medical orders and accurately transcribe them to computerized patient medication profiles; maintain accurate and complete profiles.
Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
Issue controlled substances to patient-care areas and maintain records as required by law.
Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
Assist with pharmacokinetics consultation services and drug dosing according to organizational protocol.
Review and interpret culture and susceptibility data for antibiotic appropriateness and recommend changes when needed.
Accurately and promptly detect and report suspected adverse drug reactions.
Sustain the formulary by minimizing nonformulary procurements, using therapeutic substitution protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
Accurately and completely document clinical activities and interventions.
Participate in departmental quality improvement and medication-use review activities, including data collection, quality monitoring, inspections, and maintaining assigned logs, records, and documentation.
Participate in developing and presenting orientation, education, and training programs for pharmacy, medical, nursing, and other staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
