About The Position

This is a PRN position for a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Outpatient Counselor in Dallas, TX. The role requires providing competent, safe, and professional care to clients in accordance with established standards and guidelines. The counselor will assess client needs, develop treatment plans, provide counseling services, and coordinate with community resources to ensure clients receive comprehensive care. Key responsibilities include client assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention, documentation, and motivating clients to remain engaged in treatment and continuing care programs.

Requirements

  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with the Outpatient team.
  • Ability to work with resistant behaviors.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional ethics.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Observes client confidentiality requirements.
  • Knowledge of Chemical Dependency Treatment and Programming.
  • Knowledge of associated mental/emotional dysfunction and behavior disorders.
  • Willingness to adhere to Facility Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal relationship skills with clients and staff members.
  • Performs assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Ability to control problem situations in a calm and directive manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a rapport with the clients.
  • Ability to motivate, confront, and self-disclose in an appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrates warmth, realness, and empathy.
  • Demonstrated willingness to upgrade knowledge and skills through continued education and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field.
  • Experience in the field may offset formal education requirements.
  • If in Recovery, at least two (2) years continuous sobriety required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent, safe, quality, and professional care to clients.
  • Respond to the substance users’ needs during acute emotional or physical distress.
  • Determine client eligibility for admission and Level of Service.
  • Conduct initial assessment procedures for program admission.
  • Describe program details, rules, client rights, and confidentiality to clients.
  • Conduct client assessments to identify strengths, problems, and needs for treatment plan development.
  • Develop treatment plans with client input, including goals and treatment processes.
  • Utilize professional skills to assist individuals, families, and groups in achieving objectives.
  • Provide liaison and collateral contacts to ensure maximum achievement of treatment goals.
  • Provide information to clients and families about alcoholism, drug abuse/addiction, and available services.
  • Document assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and continuing care plans.
  • Identify client needs beyond program capabilities and assist clients in utilizing support systems and community resources.
  • Interact and relate with peers and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Motivate clients to remain active in the treatment program and adhere to a Continuing Care Program.
  • Maintain a Case Management system for easy access of client information.
