About The Position

This is a PRN position where the counselor will provide and ensure competent, safe, quality, and professional care to clients in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The role effectively performs services that respond to the needs of substance users during times of acute emotional or physical distress. Responsibilities include determining client eligibility for admission and level of service, conducting initial assessments, describing program details, rules, client rights, and confidentiality to clients. The counselor will also conduct client assessments to identify strengths, problems, and needs for developing a Master Treatment Plan, and develop treatment plans with client input, including identifying problems, setting goals, and deciding on treatment processes and resources. The role involves utilizing professional skills to assist individuals, families, and groups, providing information about alcoholism and drug abuse/addiction, and documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other client-related data. Additionally, the counselor will identify client needs that cannot be met by the program and assist clients in utilizing support systems and community resources, interact with peers and other professionals, motivate clients to remain active in the treatment program and adhere to a Continuing Care Program, and maintain a Case Management system. The counselor will produce clear and concise documentation, conduct group and individual sessions, attend staff meetings, and manage charting in accordance with facility policy. Any other task assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

MUST BE LICENSED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES
Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field preferred.
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or ability to be designated as a Counselor Trainee Required.
If in Recovery, at least two (2) years continuous sobriety required.
Must have reliable transportation.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Ability to work with resistant behaviors.
Ability to maintain a high level of professional ethics.
Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
Observes client confidentiality requirements.
Knowledge of Chemical Dependency Treatment and Programming.
Knowledge of associated mental/emotional dysfunction and behavior disorders.
Willingness to adhere to Facility Policies and Procedures.
Demonstrate good interpersonal relationship skills with clients and staff members.
Performs assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
Possesses the ability to control problem situations in a calm and directive manner.
Possesses the ability to establish and maintain a rapport with the clients.
Possesses the ability to motivate, confront, and self-disclose in an appropriate manner.

Responsibilities

Maintain a Case Management system for easy access of client information.
Produce clear and concise documentation in all areas, including admit notes, assessments, daily charting, weekly clinical staffing notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
Conduct group and individual sessions to meet specified Treatment Team goals and objectives.
Attend and contribute to all required staff meetings.
Manage required charting so that all elements of the case file are completed in a timely manner.
Perform any other task assigned by supervisor.
