About The Position

The Prn CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) will manage normal obstetrical cases, including routine intrapartum and postpartum care. This role involves performing clinical examinations for antepartal care and routine gynecological care, as well as clinical evaluation of patients for prenatal care, family planning, and well-women gynecologic care. The CNM will provide obstetrical care services in a manner that fosters education, personal responsibility, and family involvement. They will seek consultation from the healthcare team and make appropriate referrals, while also providing consultation services as required. The position requires adherence to hospital safety and infection control policies, compliance with government and accrediting organization standards, and active participation in the Performance Improvement Program. The CNM will collaborate with Nursing Administration and OB physicians to monitor and recommend changes to clinical and administrative policies and procedures. Maintaining current knowledge of trends, issues, techniques, and procedures within the nursing midwifery profession is essential. The role also involves demonstrating collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers, participating in peer evaluations, and acting as a clinical preceptor for midwifery students. Additionally, the CNM will provide triage and first response in Labor and Delivery, as well as telephone triage for patients from various sources. Collaboration with Scotland Health Care System physicians in planning and implementing care for OB/GYN clients is a key responsibility. The CNM will evaluate individual health care status, formulate and revise management plans, and educate lay and/or professional groups. Maintaining current knowledge of techniques, skills, practices, and regulations specific to the age of patients served, and providing age-appropriate care are critical. Staff members must possess knowledge of human growth and development through the life span and the ability to meet the needs of patients across all age categories: Neonatal/Infant (0-11 months), Pediatrics (1-12 yrs), Adolescence (13-17 yrs), Young Adult/Adult (18-64 yrs), Adult/Middle-Aged (65-79 yrs), and Geriatric (80+ yrs).

Responsibilities

Under established protocol, manages normal obstetrical cases, including routine intrapartum and postpartum care.
Performs clinical examinations for antepartal care and routine gynecological care.
Performs clinical evaluation of patient for prenatal care, family planning, and for well-women gynecologic care.
Provides obstetrical care services in a manner, which fosters education, personal responsibility, and family involvement.
Seeks consultation according to nurse midwifery protocols from all members of the health care team involved in patient care and makes appropriate referrals. Provides consultation services as required by the health care team.
In conduct of duties follows current hospital safety and infection control policies and procedures; ensures compliance with applicable government and accrediting organization standards; and actively participates in the organization's Performance Improvement Program.
In conjunction with Nursing Administration and OB physician's, monitors and recommends, when appropriate, changes to clinical and administrative policies and procedures associated with obstetric and gynecological care delivery.
Maintains knowledge of current trends, issues, techniques, and procedures within the nursing midwifery profession.
Demonstrates collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers within the institution, community and state.
Participates in peer evaluations and review of other midwives upon request.
Acts as a clinical preceptor for midwifery students.
Provides triage and first response in Labor and Delivery for patients from Marlboro OB/GYN, Carolina Women's Center, the office of Dr. Harvey Kohn, Scotland County Health Department, and unassigned.
Provides telephone triage for patients from all sources listed above.
Collaborates with Scotland Health Care System physicians in planning and implementing care for OB/GYN clients.
Evaluates individual health care status of patients, formulates a management plan and revises the plan as indicated.
Educates lay and/or professional groups through lecture, papers, publications, and educational materials.
Maintains current knowledge of techniques, skills, current practices and regulations that are specific to the age of the patients being served.
Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for services rendered that require consideration of client age.
