About The Position

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is seeking a PRN Pharmacist to support its Essen Lane location in Baton Rouge, LA. This role is crucial for staying at the forefront of cancer care and research, managing patients receiving advanced therapies, and optimizing their safety and efficacy. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of various malignancy treatment options and have a background in oncology, leadership, and project management. While based in Baton Rouge, assistance to other sites may be required.

Requirements

LA Pharmacy License in good standing with state board required
3-5 years of experience as a pharmacist
Oncology experience required

Responsibilities

Assume clinical pharmacy leadership responsibilities for oncology infusion center/specialty pharmacy by collaborating with physicians and other health professionals to develop drug management strategies.
Maximize medication utilization in oncology, including medication guidelines, clinical pathways, core measures, education, clinical research, and policy development.
Actively participate in multidisciplinary committees, providing clinical expertise and evidence-based data to guide value-based practices.
Develop and deploy standardized treatment regimens, protocols, and monitor Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement initiatives.
Lead and participate in pharmacy educational programs for providers and the nursing team.
Adhere to and uphold all rules and regulations defined by governing bodies such as the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, Food and Drug Administration, and United States Pharmacopeia.
Meet identified department and system goals, develop and coordinate utilization reviews and prospective drug use audits.
Identify and assure collection of pertinent metrics for the area of specialization.
Maintain professional working relationships with all team members and promote a positive work environment.
Provide constructive ideas and feedback to improve the organization.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Participate in clinical medication and treatment review, general education, and patient-specific medication information and education.
Ensure safe drug delivery through specific clinical activities.
Monitor lab results for changes in organ function (due to chemotherapeutic organ toxicity or normal metabolite affected organ changes) and recommend drug dosage adjustments.
Provide leadership for clinical appropriateness review for infusion and retail pharmacy operations.
Oversee inventory management, medical supplies, and inventory cabinets.
Utilize technology proficiently to its full extent in the area of practice.
Adapt to changing priorities.
Provide leadership for compounding sterile preparations (hazardous and non-hazardous).
Ensure compliance with aseptic technique, accuracy of drug compounding, safe drug handling, and oversight of workflow efficiencies for safety and compliance.
Supervise, educate, and train other team members during sterile compounding, order verification, and other essential duties.
