About The Position

The Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for handling prior authorization processes. This role requires a high degree of concentration, attention to accuracy and detail, and the ability to manage pressure and frequent interruptions. The specialist must be courteous and tactful when interacting with patients, family members, and hospital personnel, and possess the ability to work well with diverse individuals, sometimes in challenging circumstances. Independent decision-making and public contact reflecting hospital credibility are also key aspects of this position. A positive attitude is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to use office equipment.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Requires a high degree of concentration and attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to handle pressure and frequent interruptions.
  • Courtesy and tact required in dealing with patients, family members and hospital personnel.
  • Ability to get along well and work with many different types of people, sometimes in difficult situations.
  • Ability to deal with situations which necessitate occasional independent decisions.
  • Ability to handle public contact in a manner that reflects credibility to the hospital.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude.
  • Requires prolonged standing or sitting, frequent bending, stooping or stretching.
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity and the ability to distinguish letters or symbols.
  • Normal or corrected vision range with the absence of color-blindness and hearing to normal range is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Courses in medical terminology and medical coding are preferred.
  • Experience in customer relations is preferred.
