About The Position

The Printing Technician I supports the production of high-quality flexible packaging by safely setting up, operating, and troubleshooting printing press equipment. Reporting to the Process Leader, this position helps ensure printed materials consistently meet customer specifications for color, registration, appearance, and overall quality. This is a hands-on manufacturing role requiring mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous printing, press, converting, or manufacturing experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and are comfortable troubleshooting basic equipment and printing issues.
  • Ability to read and understand job jackets, work instructions, specifications, and production documentation.
  • Experience working with inks, color, registration, or print-quality standards.
  • Ability to use equipment such as scales, densitometers, Zahn cups, X-Rite devices, or similar measuring and color-control tools.
  • Ability to accurately maintain production logs and records.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Forklift experience and can maintain required forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and take pride in producing quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain a professional approach when working with coworkers and management.
  • Willing to learn, develop your technical skills, and advance through departmental progression.
  • Able to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times while following all plant and division safety rules, policies, and required PPE.
  • Set up and operate printing press equipment according to job specifications and production requirements.
  • Set up and run 5- and 6-color printing jobs with lamination.
  • Achieve and maintain proper registration and color throughout production runs.
  • Review job jackets, previous orders, specifications, and other production information before and during press runs.
  • Set up cohesive printing units and pumping stations.
  • Assemble and disassemble press components, including connecting and disconnecting pumps.
  • Adjust compensating idlers and cylinder carriages to properly level copy.
  • Use air gap and doctor blade angle adjustments to control haze.
  • Set up Grafikontrol according to job specifications.
  • Set and operate web guides.
  • Change impression roll sleeves.
  • Web the press with or without the treater.
  • Perform automatic changeovers and manual registration.
  • Adjust web tensions to correct repeat and slack issues.
  • Set, adjust, and level nips and impression rollers.
  • Set automatic viscosity controls and program ink specifications.
  • Charge and reject rolls according to established procedures.
  • Properly identify and flag finished rolls.
  • Perform daily flow checks of the Mahr Meter Mix system.
  • Troubleshoot basic printing and press-operation issues.
  • Ensure finished products meet customer quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and timely production records and documentation.
  • Operate a forklift as required.
  • Support total quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on production needs.
