About The Position

The Printing Operator at the Leavenworth Production Center is responsible for assisting the Lead Printing Operator in the operation of a high-speed, multi-color press that prints wrapping paper and tissue. Printing Operators assist in the setting-up and adjusting of the press to reproduce high-quality product designs, as well as operates the press efficiently and will monitor, diagnose, and correct printing and mechanical related issues. This is a 2nd shift or 3rd shift opportunity (3:30pm - 12am or 11:30p - 8a), Monday through Friday. The position reports through the Leavenworth Print Department, which consists of multi-color printing presses to print wrapping paper and tissue at high speed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months successful experience as a Merit 17 Print Apprentice OR Minimum 1 year experience running equipment at the GA 40 Large Production Operator, GA 39 Medium Production Operator, Merit 18 Bag Operator, MFGS Envelope Technician, or MFGS Lead Press Operator level OR Minimum 1 year experience running equipment in GA37 Packaging Operator level OR Equivalent external experience
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry items weighing up to 25-50 lbs. frequently, and 50 – 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk 95% of the time
  • Ability to frequently reach, twist, bend, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills
  • Ability to frequently work in awkward, cramped, and difficult positions
  • Ability to regularly work at or above shoulder level and in awkward positions
  • Ability to pass a color perception test.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of general machine experience
  • Prior experience in a printing role preferred
  • Possess some knowledge of inks, color, and their affect in printing and attaining the correct reproduction of product
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical skills and computer skills
  • Ability to problem solve technical issues and provide recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and print issues at the start and throughout the production run to ensure printed product meets customer standards.
  • Assist in determining press speed to ensure efficient operation.
  • Interpret and analyze job specifications/instructions and adjusts either materials, tooling, equipment or ink to meet the job specifications.
  • Assist in the set-up of the press with the correct components and with the proper adjustments to achieve color targets with the least amount of waste as possible.
  • Fills in during the absence of the Lead Printing Operator.
  • Runs the press through breaks and lunches with a Lead Printing Operator.
  • Executes quality system including preflight, sampling plan and the removal of salvage/spoilage.
  • Prepare related paperwork/documentation for shipping accuracy, including completing production data and spoilage.
  • Completes regular press maintenance and cleaning including TPM’s.
