Requirements

  • Must have 5+ years as a 1st or 2nd press operator in all Flexographic print technology.
  • Requires basic educational background normally acquired through the completion of high school level programs leading to a diploma or GED.
  • Must learn the operation of printing equipment through completion of Print Operator training program.
  • Must have good color perception and the ability to see, read, and distinguish letters and/or symbols.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Requires a mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet schedule needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Lean 6-Sigma is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Safely set-up, adjust and monitor printing presses to ensure they run at prescribed quality and efficiency standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of presses and assure all safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that printing area meets Huhtamaki housekeeping requirements.
  • Observe all safety and company policies and participate in company safety programs.
  • Perform set-ups on printing equipment following established tasks and perform quality checks on critical customer requirements prior to beginning production.
  • Ensure good print quality by maintaining proper color levels to standards visually and with Xrite iControl software and spectrophotometers.
  • Review press retains (samples) after each roll for print defects and address defects immediately.
  • Follow the quality hold procedures for all nonconforming materials.
  • Manage inks effectively, measuring viscosities manually using a #2 Zahn cup and a stop watch as well as using viscometers.
  • Communicate and work effectively with onsite ink vendor.
  • Follow and meet production schedules for customer orders.
  • Complete all required tasks in TWS (Transition Works), including issuing input rolls to the order, reporting run time and downtime, reporting waste, printing labels for finished goods, moving storage locations, and reporting production for the order.
  • Complete required reports accurately.
  • Acquire and demonstrate a good working knowledge of flexographic printing equipment and be able to perform cold start ups, web the press, and perform most press maintenance level jobs.
  • Manage the press and personnel, teach and lead others, trouble shoot all printing and peripheral equipment and perform roll on-loading and off-loading.
  • Safely store and remove anilox rolls, bridges, and sleeves.
  • Maintain anilox roll cleanliness using the Sanilox cleaner.
  • Understand the relationship between plate mounting and its affect on the job as it prints.
  • Ensure shift to shift communication and hand over is critical to performance standards.
  • Keep cleaners, towels, and supplies ready at press.
  • Work with and through others to accomplish required tasks.
  • Communicate concerns and ideas effectively to Printing Management.
  • Strictly follow all AIB, GMP audit guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement projects and teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
