About The Position

Principle Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, and overseeing the safe and efficient function of large industrial boilers within the facility. They will also oversee other equipment functions.

Requirements

  • 1st class operating engineer certification
  • Food Engineering emphasis is required in addition to practical experience of operating boilers in food manufacturing an asset
  • Excellent leadership qualities, verbal and written communication skills, and technical analysis and problem solving skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Project Engineering and project execution a plus.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement applications in engineering design.
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all equipment in a 1st class power plant; including's boilers, air compressors, water treatment, auxiliary equipment, cooling towers, wastewater spray field etc.
  • Oversee and supervisor 2nd class shift engineers & 3rd class shift engineers (Unionized)
  • Involved in strategic initiatives and projects such as energy efficiency projects, cooling upgrades, expansion of spray field & wastewater, Evaporator expansions, security system upgrades etc.
  • Work with the Senior Engineer to determine a design schedule that meets that overall project schedule requirements.
  • Check and sign engineer log books to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Order parts & maintain inventory for boiler equipment.
  • Conducting water samples on spray field/wastewater.
  • TSSA inspections of safety valves, boilers.
  • Inspect fire equipment on a monthly, annual basis and coordinate with outside contractor.
  • Identification of Alternatives, Pre-requisites, Risks, and Opportunities
  • Write detailed functional control descriptions for the unit operations systems recommended by the Engineer.
  • Keeps current with latest industry regulations and codes relative to equipment system design and operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
