About The Position

The Board of Education may, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, appoint a principal for an elementary or secondary school. The elementary and secondary principal shall be 240-day employees. The compensation will be fixed by the Board of Education. The principal shall be directly responsible to the superintendent.

Requirements

  • Proper Kentucky School Principal certification
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • To be a role model in research-based teaching strategies and intervention programs to promote student achievement
  • Physical, TB risk assessment, state/national criminal background check, CAN Check, and drug screen

Responsibilities

  • See that all employees under direct supervision fulfill their working obligations regarding time and efficiency to the best of their ability.
  • Under the supervision of the Superintendent, be responsible for the general management and discipline of his/her school and for the care and use of the building, grounds, and all equipment.
  • Be responsible for the management of all public funds handled in the school, maintain an adequate internal accounting system, and provide an annual financial report to the Board.
  • Develop a comprehensive program of public relations.
  • Be responsible to see that all unauthorized persons are restricted from school grounds during school days and all school functions.
  • Be responsible for constant evaluation and supervision of the instructional program and shall at all times plan and adopt the courses of study to the needs, interests, and abilities of the child.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent.
  • See that all pupils who stay at school for any purpose must be under the direct supervision of the teacher or the principal.
  • Make recommendations for employment on all certified personnel to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Work closely with the Director of Human Resources on the employment of classified personnel.
  • Develop or cause to be developed a school philosophy and a student handbook.
  • Ensure that all utilization of the school building by non-school groups is in compliance with Board of Education policies.
  • Ensure that all Board policies and administrative directives are fulfilled.
  • Be responsible for implementing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (PH93-380) and Public Law 94-142.
  • Be responsible for holding one fire drill per month, or a minimum of eight per year. It is recommended that the principal have at least four drills per semester.
  • Be responsible for holding three disaster drills per year. Such drills shall be so organized as to simulate emergency conditions.
  • Inform his staff (certified and classified) of related information disseminated in principals' meetings by the Superintendent by a faculty meeting or bulletin/newsletter, not later than two working days after his/her reception of the information.
  • Be responsible for the supervision of all students during the loading and unloading of buses.
  • Maintain a list of the names of students transported by each bus serving his/her school district.
  • Be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all certified personnel assigned to his/her building.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
