About The Position

This Management Service position serves at the Appointing Authority's pleasure. A resume must accompany your completed application. The Department of Juvenile Services is searching for passionate and compassionate education professionals to join our team at our local government youth education facility. As a Principal, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of youth by providing them with the guidance, support, and education they need to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable youth while contributing to the betterment of our community. This recruitment will be used to fill one principal positions within the Alfred D. Noyes Choldren Center. Candidates with secondary education Administrator I or II credentials. Incentive: Locally employed educators may receive a leave balance transfer (subject to eligibility and verification of leave balance by the local employer).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience and 3 years in an administrative or leadership role.
  • Minimum of 3 years leading Special Education.
  • Hold or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Administrator II.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Implementation: Oversee the implementation of the academic and vocational programs in the JSEP curriculum.

  • Student Assessment: Monitor student progress through assessments and data analysis to ensure educational goals are being met.
  • Professional Development: Facilitate ongoing professional development for staff to ensure they are equipped with the latest educational strategies and techniques.
  • Hiring and Training: Act as a leader in the recruitment, hiring, and training of qualified staff who can deliver high-quality education and support services.
  • Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular performance evaluations of staff, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment among staff, encouraging teamwork and shared responsibility for student success.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Ensure the development and implementation of IEPs for students with special needs.
  • Counseling Services: Coordinate with school counseling and mental staff to provide mental health and emotional support services to students.
  • Family Engagement: Engage with families and guardians to support student learning while in the JSEP schools and facilitate successful reintegration post-release.
  • Compliance: Ensure the school complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations in regard to Special Education and all JSEP Board standards surrounding records, special education, instruction, teacher certifications, and transition.
  • School Counseling Services: Performs key functions of a school guidance counselor, including conducting transcript reviews, evaluating credit attainment, ensuring accurate course placement, and supporting graduation and transition planning. This role requires a working knowledge of secondary scheduling, credit requirements, and post-secondary pathways.
