About The Position

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Principal UX Design Systems Designer to modernize and scale their design system, component architecture, UI patterns, and data visualization libraries. This role involves actively using AI coding assistants to generate component code and directly integrate it into Storybook for engineering review. The designer will drive alignment between Figma and production code, own component architecture in Storybook, and act as a force multiplier for the design organization through training and evangelism. The position requires proactive leadership in system architecture, comprehensive documentation, and direct contribution to key platform feature workflows to ensure a deep understanding of user personas and technical constraints.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of Product / Design Systems Experience with a proven track record of planning, building, and scaling enterprise-grade design systems.
  • Daily hands-on experience using AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) to turn design concepts into code, automate workflows, and build functional prototypes.
  • Comfort taking ownership of components in Storybook and using AI to write clean UI code (React, TypeScript, CSS/HTML) for engineering review.
  • Exceptional visual and interaction craft with a bias for action.
  • Demonstrated ability to make strong architectural calls, balance system purity with pragmatism, and lead through rapid experimentation.
  • A portfolio featuring deep, end-to-end case studies that clearly articulate the problem solved, strategic trade-offs, AI-assisted execution process, and systemic business impact.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, guiding, or upskilling design peers through process transformations and new tooling adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Modernize and scale the design system, component architecture, UI patterns, and data visualization libraries using AI coding assistants.
  • Drive full alignment between Figma variables, design tokens, and production code.
  • Define component architecture (variants, props, and slots) in Storybook to ensure code-native, multi-themed, and production-ready design system assets.
  • Act as a force multiplier for the design organization by leading training, establishing guardrails, and building "vibe coding" workflows.
  • Make high-craft architectural decisions that solve the majority of use cases efficiently.
  • Experiment with out-of-the-box patterns to eliminate development handoff friction.
  • Lead comprehensive, automated documentation across Figma, Storybook, and shared developer tooling.
  • Contribute directly to key platform feature workflows to stay grounded in user personas, technology constraints, and system application.
