About The Position

Blue Canyon Technologies, RTX's small satellite manufacturer and mission services provider, is solving some of the toughest challenges in space. Our components and bus platforms have completed missions ranging from very-low Earth orbits to lunar and interplanetary journeys at a fraction of the cost of traditional space systems. We support premier defense, commercial and civil organizations including the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, NASA, MIT Lincoln Lab, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Colorado and more. Join our innovative and dynamic company as we build, test and operate the small spacecraft of the future. As a Principal Technical Product Manager, you'll set the product strategy and technical direction for one of BCT's product areas — ADCS, star trackers, reaction wheels, power, or another part of the portfolio — assigned based on business need and your background. These products have enabled hundreds of spacecraft and missions, and you'll define where they go over the next several years: which markets to chase, which capabilities to build, and where the business should place its bets. You're the senior technical and commercial voice for your area — to customers, to the industry, and inside BCT. You shape strategy where it's most ambiguous, frame the tradeoffs that move the business, and bring the rest of the organization along through credibility rather than authority. You care about building a portfolio that's relevant, repeatable, and valuable over time, and about reading the market early enough to get there first. BCT's mission is to enable space missions that expand the frontiers of science and defense. This is a high-ownership, high-trust role, and your job is to make that mission real for the product area you lead — and to push how far it reaches. If you're the kind of person who meets an ambiguous market with curiosity and then goes to work clearing the constraints on where it can go, you'll do well here.

Requirements

  • A technical degree (Systems, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or similar) and 13+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, with the ability to think through interactions between engineering domains — mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, and more.
  • A track record of owning a product or product area across many programs and multiple generations, with clear business impact.
  • Deep command of the spacecraft product lifecycle — concept through qualification, production, and sustainment, including TRLs — and the judgment to set direction under real uncertainty.
  • Proven ability to set product strategy and shape investment, working across Engineering, BD, Program Management, and Operations to align technical execution with where the business is going.
  • A recognized ability to represent a product line credibly to customers and the broader industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 12+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • GNC engineering experience — extra points for familiarity with BCT systems
  • Spacecraft systems engineering experience with direct experience in a subsystem BCT supports (ADCS, Power, C&DH, etc.)
  • Deep hands-on experience with a component solution BCT supplies or competes against (star trackers, reaction wheels, CMGs, torque rods, sun sensors, SADAs, batteries, solar arrays)
  • A track record setting product strategy or taking a product line into a market and growing it
  • Experience mentoring product managers or technical leads
  • Configurable or variant-based product lines across diverse customer needs
  • A visible industry presence — conference talks, technical papers, or standards work
  • Familiarity with specs, SOWs, and subcontract technical inputs
  • Hands-on history with demanding flight programs
  • MATLAB or Python
  • JIRA or similar planning/tracking tools
  • A "figure it out and get it done" instinct
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education

Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and multi-year roadmap for your area, and steer the roadmaps of the components and suppliers it depends on so each generation is positioned better than the last.
  • Be the senior voice of the customer and the market. Read where the industry is going, define the capabilities that will matter, and translate that into direction engineering and the business can act on.
  • Lead the external story. Be a visible technical presence at industry conferences, author and shape the technical papers that establish BCT's position, and bring customers the "art of the possible" at the deepest level.
  • Own the most important customer engagements. Lead high-stakes technical exchanges and decision meetings, communicating direction and risk credibly to the most demanding audiences.
  • Shape where the business invests. Drive the technical content and direction of major proposals, and set the IRAD/CRAD agenda that ties engineering bets to long-term business goals.
  • Set the standard for the discipline. Define how trade studies, requirements, and product decisions get made across the area, and drive consistency across BCT's product lines.
  • Grow the team. Mentor Senior and Level II product managers and engineers, and set the bar for technical rigor and product judgment.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • May include personnel management responsibilities

Benefits
