GENERAL FUNCTION: Evaluate, design and implement technology solutions to build and progress technology strategies with a line of business. In the majority of situations, the incumbent will be the application owner responsible for third party, purchased software aligned with a LOB. Will have responsibility to work with vendor to understand upcoming changes, how the software fits into the technology roadmap and design plans to ensure business continuity and effectiveness. Understands the banks systems, how they are configured, how we need to reconfigure to meet the changes. If aligned to an agile squad may work closely with the product owner to ensure user stories are defined appropriately to develop effective technology solutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 8+ years of engineering or other IT work experience relevant to the position
  • Strong expertise in z/OS internals, WLM, RMF, SMF, JES2/JES3
  • Hands-on experience with capacity planning and performance analysis
  • Proficiency in system-level diagnostics and problem determination
  • Experience with SMP/E, PARMLIB configuration, and system upgrades
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in a highly-collaborative environment
  • Solid understanding and significant experience with modern software development practices, tools, and/or hardware technologies
  • Solid understanding of IT security best practices
  • Expertise in one or more technical and/or functional domains relevant to the position
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex technical solutions
  • Technical skills per the specific position’s requirements

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and tune mainframe system performance (CPU, memory, I/O, workloads)
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze SMF/RMF data to provide actionable insights and recommendations
  • Optimize WLM policies and service class definitions to align with business priorities
  • Develop and maintain capacity models to predict future demand and growth
  • Perform trend analysis and forecasting for CPU, DASD, and throughput requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering and business teams to align capacity plans with strategic initiatives
  • Support hardware upgrades, LPAR sizing, and infrastructure scaling decisions
  • Perform z/OS system programming tasks including installation, configuration, and maintenance
  • Tune system parameters (PARMLIB, JES2, WLM, SRM) for performance optimization
  • Support and enhance system automation and health monitoring
  • Maintain system software including SMP/E maintenance, patching, and upgrades
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues impacting performance and availability
  • Utilize performance tools such as RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON, or equivalent
  • Generate reports and dashboards to communicate performance metrics to stakeholders
  • Develop scripts or automation (REXX, Python, or similar) to improve efficiency
  • Follow industry and organizational best practices and standards, and participate in company communities of practice to continuously refine and communicate them.
