About The Position

This role serves as a technical leader within the I&C Safety Systems Software Tools and Automation Organization. The primary responsibility is to establish, maintain, and improve the processes, procedures, standards, training programs, and compliance framework for the development of safety-critical software and digital I&C systems. The position focuses on software lifecycle governance, regulatory compliance, engineering documentation, workforce qualification, process improvement, and requirements traceability. The individual will collaborate with various teams including software engineers, systems engineers, quality engineers, verification and validation teams, licensing personnel, project teams, and management to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, customer commitments, and company procedures. Key activities include interpreting regulatory guidance, translating requirements into actionable engineering processes, maintaining software lifecycle procedures, supporting audits, managing technical training, and ensuring personnel qualifications meet expectations. The role also contributes to software governance strategy, training program development, audit readiness, process improvement, workforce development, and engineering excellence across multiple safety system programs. The position reports to the Manager, I&C Safety Software – Software Tools and Automation and is a hybrid role located at the Warrendale, PA facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting engineering, software development, systems engineering, quality assurance, licensing, compliance, training, or related technical activities.
  • Strong experience developing, implementing, or maintaining technical procedures, engineering processes, standards, governance programs, or quality systems.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry such as nuclear power, aerospace, defense, medical devices, transportation, industrial automation, or similar safety-related environments.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or maintaining technical documentation including plans, procedures, specifications, reports, work instructions, or compliance records.
  • Strong understanding of requirements management, configuration management, traceability, verification, validation, quality assurance, and engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Experience supporting workforce qualification, training compliance, competency development, or technical training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation.
  • Research, evaluate, and interpret technical requirements, standards, regulations, and industry guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve software lifecycle procedures, work instructions, standards, policies, and governance documents supporting safety-critical software development.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements, industry standards, licensing commitments, and customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering processes and guidance.
  • Develop and maintain mappings between regulatory requirements, internal procedures, project plans, and software lifecycle activities.
  • Support compliance with software quality assurance, software engineering, configuration management, verification, validation, cybersecurity, and traceability requirements.
  • Provide guidance to project teams regarding procedural compliance, documentation expectations, software quality requirements, and software lifecycle activities.
  • Support creation and maintenance of Software Development Plans, Software Quality Assurance Plans, Software Configuration Management Plans, Software Safety Plans, Documentation Plans, and other lifecycle documents.
  • Review engineering documentation for compliance with established procedures, quality requirements, regulatory commitments, and project expectations.
  • Support software requirements management and traceability activities across requirements, design, implementation, verification, validation, and release artifacts.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Safety Software training programs, onboarding curricula, qualification requirements, and role-based learning paths.
  • Review and update technical training materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, process compliance, and alignment with current engineering practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Monitor training compliance, qualification status, refresher training requirements, and curriculum effectiveness.
  • Partner with technical leads and subject matter experts to identify training gaps and develop new learning content.
  • Establish and maintain software engineering competency models and qualification requirements for engineers, technical leads, and project support personnel.
  • Support onboarding activities by ensuring personnel receive appropriate technical, process, quality, and regulatory training.
  • Participate in internal audits, customer audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance assessments.
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities within existing software development processes, procedures, and training programs.
  • Collaborate with software tools and automation teams to improve documentation generation, traceability management, training administration, compliance reporting, and engineering workflow automation.
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance regarding software lifecycle processes, regulatory compliance, training expectations, and engineering best practices.
