About The Position

In this position, you will focus on the decomposition and design of complex training device features and interfaces. You will work in a fast-paced, modern, agile development environment, and collaborate closely with software and hardware to build and test advanced mission capabilities and features. This position requires: US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance Day 1. Onsite: This is an onsite role supporting our Richardson, TX location. At Collins Aerospace, we’re modernizing Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) capabilities as part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s strategic command and control military aircraft recapitalization programs. As our next Principal Systems Engineer and as a member of our Integrated Platforms (IP) Engineering team, you will be provided with the training and tools to help grow the skills you will need to become a subject matter expert (SME) in the systems engineering lifecycle. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD issued Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Experience with capture, analysis and decomposition of System requirements
  • Experience identifying, analyzing and resolving problems in all phases of the system lifecycle
  • Experience working with customers, end users, hardware design teams, and software design teams
  • Requires on-site presence in a classified lab space.
  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 10% of time).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RF Systems and/or Mission Systems solutions.
  • Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) design tools (Enterprise Architect, Cameo, or equivalent) using SysML.
  • Experience working in a SAFe Agile environment.
  • Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value management experience.
  • Participating in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER products).

Responsibilities

  • Engaged with systems requirements modeling activities in a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment using SysML with Cameo.
  • Serve as a systems architect or as systems engineering focal to capture, analyze, decompose, model, translate and create requirements for large complex systems.
  • Mentor team in the development of functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation, including identifying and documenting architecturally significant requirements and technical risk areas.
  • Support technical proposal preparation and/or serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.
  • Interface with customers and use oral and written skills to develop great working relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • Develop technical & product roadmaps and competitive assessments in area of expertise.
  • Recommend and help implement new approaches, tools, and techniques based on needs identified in metric and defect trends on current and related programs.
  • Develop and/or utilize prognostic metrics for system design and development.
  • Review metrics and defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements.
