About The Position

The Processing, Guidance and Controls (PG&C) Center within the Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities Discipline is seeking Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR or RF Signal Processing engineers. This role involves collaborating in the design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of radio frequency (RF) or electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) algorithms and models. These algorithms are used across products and new business initiatives to extract and exploit sensor signals for calibrating and denoising raw sensor data; detecting, acquiring, tracking, and classifying objects of interest; and sensor fusion. The engineer will act with advanced to expert knowledge of signal processing to support budget, schedule, development, execution, and completion of difficult and often complex missile systems program objectives. They will use and modify simulations for the design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of signal processing algorithms and models. Participation in engineering lab environments to test, verify, and validate sensor models and signal processing algorithm performance in accordance with requirements is expected. The role focuses on integration of algorithms into hardware and collaboration in all development phases from program start-up to live-fire testing, providing signal processing knowledge to resolve numerous and often undefined problems and issues in design reviews, peer reviews, and technical briefings. The engineer will also share knowledge and mentor multiple team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Signal processing experience in the EO/IR, RF, Sonar, or Acoustic domain.
  • Experience with the C programming language, or Object-Oriented Programming experience with the C++, C#, or Java programming languages.
  • Experience with algorithm design, implementation, analysis, testing, and optimization.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret U.S. government issued Security Clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access after start.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Applied Math.
  • Experience with missile systems applications supporting customer programs.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in multiple EO/IR, RF, sonar, or acoustic algorithms such as edge detection, segmentation, image restoration, adaptive processing, beamforming, angle estimation, synthetic aperture processing, waveform design, tracking, feature extraction, or classification / recognition.
  • Proficiency in using MATLAB or Python for analysis of data sets.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of presenting analysis to technical and non-technical audiences and advocating for best solutions and strategy.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration.
  • Experience managing or leading others in a technical and/or functional capacity within an engineering environment.
  • Ability to interface with adjacent engineering disciplines such as Guidance, Navigation, and Control; Software Engineering; Systems Engineering; or Hardware Engineering.
