Come join the Boeing Platforms department engineering team as a Principal Systems Engineer with focus on ARP-4754 Systems Certification. Our team of engineers design state-of-the-art, industry-leading flight displays for the flight decks of large commercial airplanes, such as the Boeing 787. As a Certification Focal in our department, you will be responsible for the coordination of program-level certification activities, with primary emphasis on systems certification, overseeing the development of program plans to support certification objectives, coordination of DA reviews, readiness reviews, and directly supporting FAA/EASA Certification Compliance Finders (ODA / TCRs / DERs / E-UMs).

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working with E-UMs/TCRs for DA audits related to ARP-4754.
  • 5+ years of experience with ARP-4754 and/or DO-178 commercial certification process.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the application of the certification objectives defined in ARP-4754 and ARP-4761 for Air Transport category airplanes.
  • Experience with the Seattle ACO and E-UMs from major OEMs is highly desired.
  • Experience developing avionics systems using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with ARINC standards such as ARINC 429, ARINC 664 and ARINC 661.

Responsibilities

  • Be the primary interface with external customers and Certification Compliance Finders in support of systems certification activities, such as certification documents and audit certification support.
  • Coordinate certification activities, including project management for bidding, estimating, tracking and reporting on technical scope, cost and schedule.
  • Proactively identify and manage risk associated with the certification aspects of displays programs.
  • Be the primary point of contact for the project team for questions against process, plans, standards, and policies.
  • Has advanced knowledge of systems certification.
  • Perform technical coordination with various teams, including, but not limited to, customers (internal and external), systems engineers, hardware engineers, software engineers, partner suppliers, safety engineers, and program managers.
  • Understands dependencies between domains and related impacts.
  • Demonstrate good judgement by quickly assessing the cost, benefit and risks of decisions, and apply critical thinking and sound logic to make well-informed decisions.
  • Problems encountered are difficult and often complex and undefined and impact multiple domains.
  • Has broad ownership of tasks, of which may have significant impact on the project.
  • Present information effectively to external and internal leaders of varying levels and anticipate possible questions.
  • Mentor other team members and help them develop in areas such as certification, systems engineering, software engineering and process compliance.
  • Champion creating training materials and opportunities for knowledge transfer.
  • May assist with other systems engineering team activities when certification work is reduced at certain periods during the development life cycle; systems engineering team activities may include requirements capture, system design and modeling, integrating with hardware and software components, system validation and verification.
